Yamanat – Special

“Yamnat”, a judicial source from the city of Taiz, reported that the military authorities are pushing to end the judges’ strike and amicably resolve the issue of the attack on the court complex.

Stoppage of work

The Judges’ Club, Taiz branch, announced the suspension of the work of prosecutors and courts, effective Tuesday, August 5, 2025, while the heads of courts and prosecutions of the judicial complex called on the President of the Governorate Court of Appeal to refer the commander of the 22nd Mechanized Brigade and the military personnel involved in the attack to the Specialized Criminal Court, to be legally responsible.

Dilute

The source indicated that the axis commander informed the judicial authorities of the governorate that the attackers had been imprisoned and that sanctions would be taken against them, but that the judges were determined to bring to justice the brigade commander and the attacking soldiers.

Officer kidnapped

The source pointed out that the security guard of the judicial complex is still kidnapped, while the brigade commander refuses to recognize the attack on the judicial complex, even though the incident was observed and documented.

Soldiers who came in civilian clothes aboard two vehicles belonging to the 22nd Mechanized Brigade attacked the judicial complex in the city of Taiz with light and medium weapons last Tuesday, and attempted to storm the building to extract one of their colleagues imprisoned by judicial decision. They also kidnapped the complex’s security guard, Assaf Al-Sufyani, at gunpoint.

conviction

Although the incident was observed and documented, Taiz axis spokesperson Abdel Baset Al-Bahr gave a different account, indicating that it was an argument between two soldiers and that he witnessed the incident, which drew widespread condemnation, considering that Al-Bahr presented himself as complicit in the crime.

Invasion and challenge

What happened in the Taiz justice complex is not just a passing incident of aggression, but rather represents a dangerous indicator of the military establishment’s encroachment on the state’s civilian institutions, including the judiciary.

This incident constitutes a flagrant challenge to the law and the prestige of the judiciary, and indicates that certain military formations have begun to place themselves above all responsibility.

Collusion and insult

What is more dangerous than this is the military authority’s attempt to contain the crime “amicably”, and its refusal to acknowledge the incident, despite the presence of witnesses and recordings proving it, which reflects collusion or direct cover-up of the perpetrators, and an attempt to impose the logic of force over law.

The account of axis spokesperson Taiz, who downplayed the seriousness of the incident and presented it as a “mere dispute”, constitutes an insult to the judges, denounces a continued approach of justifying military violations against state institutions and confirms that the military now acts with confidence that the hand of justice will not reach them, indicating that the ability to seek accountability is a political decision, linked to the presence of the state.

What is happening today in Taiz brings to the forefront the fundamental question of the future of the State and the law in an environment where the gun has become stronger than the texts of the law and where military formations treat the judiciary as an obstacle and not as a reference.
